True Tragedy

I'm sure that everyone has heard by now but if not, Tuesday, Exodus Tyson, 4 year-old daughter of Mike Tyson tragically died from a freak treadmill accident. The little girl was found unconscious, with a chord from the treadmill tied around her neck, by her older brother. She was shortly on life support but has since passed away. My prayers go out to Mike Tyson and his family. It's sad to see such a young kid pass away.

Force Feeding

I'm sure that anyone who's been watching the playoffs this year, or T.V in general, has seen the Kobe and LeBron commercials. Of course, the NBA is gonna promote two of it's best players, but does it have to be only two? At the beginning of the postseason it did seem like it would be a cleared path for both the Cavs and the Lakers to make it to the finals but now it isn't; The Lakers are in a battle with the Nuggets with the series being tied at 2 games a piece and the Cavs can't seem to find an answer for the Magic who are up 2-1, and would be 3-0 if it weren't for LeBron's miracle buzzer beater in game 2. Players from both the Magic and the Nuggets have expressed that the non-stop Kobe and LeBron ads do bother them and serves as motivation. It seems that the NBA and networks such as ESPN want a Cleveland-L.A series so desperately that they'll stop at nothing until they get it. It even seems like the refs, especially in the Cleveland-Orlando series are part of this. I wonder what ads will be on if only one, or neither Kobe or LeBron makes it...

Cool Interview

Today I was surfing through World Star as usual, and I came across this Tavis Smiley interview with Common. I'm sure that it's pretty recent. Common talks about his latest album and how he tried a new approach and he also talked about his role in the Terminator Salvation movie which comes out today. So here it is...

Pack Boys Back

I know that there's not a lot of fans of The Pack, but I been listening to them for a while now and I like there music even though it's not lyrical. I was on World Star today and I saw that they have a new video...it's called "Hoes in this House". So here it is...

Gift or Curse?

In last night's NBA Draft Lottery the L.A Clippers won the 1st overall pick. In one way it's good because they control their own destiny and will most likely pick Oklahoma Forward, Blake Griffin. What worries me is that the Clippers are not the best decision-making organization. Out of the Draft Lottery's 25 year existence, the Clippers have participated 20 times! The worst part is they never get better. I think they've only made the playoffs 2 or 3 times in my lifetime(19 years). I just hope they don't ruin Griffin's career;he has great upside. The Clips need to make some major moves this offseason if they plan to build around this kid.

New Beginning

At 4 A.M this morning, former NFL superstar Michael Vick was released from federal prison. Everyone knows that Vick has been serving two years for his secret dog fighting scandal but that's not what is important. What's important is that he'll been given the chance to prove that he can once again be a dynamic force in the NFL. Some doubt it but I don't. I believe that with a couple of months of NFL-level training he'll be back to the force he once was.

Scary

This morning on ESPN it was reported that top high school prospect John Wall has signed with Kentucky. I wrote about him a couple months back, talking about him being the next big thing. Now that he will be under Calipari's system at Kentucky, it's no doubt in my mind that he will go top 3 in the 2010 NBA Draft. Kentucky may instantly go to the Elite 8. It's scary how good Wall and Kentucky will be and they haven't even played one game together.

A Tribute

This past Friday, former NBA player and top-selling Jazz Musician, Wayman Tisdale died of cancer. Although i didn't know much about him, I could just tell that he was a really good guy and I felt it necessary to take time out to write about him. I first learned about him this year when he was elected to the College Basketball Hall of Fame. Tisdale was less than a month from his 45th birthday. It's just sad to see a truly good person pass away. So I send my prayers to his family, rest in peace Wayman...6/09/64-5/15/09

The Real Playoffs

As of tonight, the NBA Conference Finals are finally set. In the West, the Lakers will face the Nuggets and in the East the Cavaliers will face Magic. Before the playoffs started I would have said that the Cavs and the Lakers would definitely meet in the Finals but it's a little different now. Denver has shown great passion and energy so far and with Chauncey Billups running the show, they could beat L.A. And although the Cavs have LeBron, Orlando matches up well with them and did win the season series, 2-1. I think each series will go to at least 6 games, with each game being a battle. I can't wait to tune in.

Long Overdue

Here's a good video on Carmelo Anthony's road through the playoffs this year from WorldStarhiphop.com. It's good to see that he's finally getting recognition from the world as a superstar. I always felt that he was from the time he came into the league. It's also good to see because he grew up in Baltimore. Here it is:

Not 2 Bad

Last night I caught most of the ESPN movie, Kobe Doin' Work, directed by Spike Lee. I expected it to be more of a documentary about Kobe's career in the NBA but it was basically Kobe explaining the Laker's system. It actually wasn't bad. It's sometimes hard to look at Kobe as a normal person since he's constantly being ridiculed by fans and critics but I plan to watch it again to get the whole story.

Where's the Dignity?

Although Brett Favre is recognized as a legend, I find it hard to respect this guy. For at least the last 3 or 4 seasons he has faked his retirement in order to gain personal benefit. Now it's beginning to be clear to me why the Packers let him go. He held them hostage so he could decide if he wanted to play or not so they traded him. His stint with the New York Jets seemed as if it was a success until Favre plummeted the last half of the season, throwing 22 interceptions total. His "retirement" at season's end was no surprise since the Jets didn't make the postseason. Now there are rumors surfacing that Favre has met with the Minnesota Vikings about joining the team. What happened to loyalty? This basically says that Favre doesn't wanna play for the Jets and that he wants to stick it to the Packers twice a year because they are division rivals of the Vikings. Show some dignity Favre. I know he may be angry about what happened with Green Bay but is it to the point where he can't leave the game until he gets revenge? It may be humbling for him if he joins the Vikings and loses both meetings with the Packers.

Yaoooo

Last night the Houston Rockets beat the Lakers 100-92 to take a 1-0 lead in the Western Conference 2nd round playoffs. The duo of Shane Battier and Ron Artest played tremendous defense on Kobe Bryant, who scored 32 but needed 31 shots to get it. Houston showed toughness all 4 quarters, flowing on offense and playing solid defense. Both Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum struggled against Yao Ming who scored 28 points. Ron Artest also showed great focus and chipped in with his own 21 points. This series should be a great one. Expect Kobe to come out hot when Game 2 comes around.

LeBron for MVP

Yesterday LeBron James was named NBA MVP for the first time in his young career. It was basically a runaway with James' Cleveland Cavaliers having the best record in the NBA and sweeping the Pistons in the first round of the playoffs. In the regular season LeBron averaged over 28 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists per game. Here is a clip from his press conference which he held at his high school, St.Vincent-St.Mary's in Ohio:

On Edge

So its been a couple of months since I've actually heard a new Lupe song...I'm in need right now!!! At first LupE.N.D was supposed to drop, then it got indefinitely postponed, then he was going to bring an album out called The Great American Rap Album, now the name is changed to Lasers. What's the hold up Lu?? Drop a mixtape or somethin. If anybody knows anything let me know...A.S.A.P

Instant Classic

Tonight will be game 7 of the Bulls-Celtics first round series. This series has been an epic battle since game 1. The series has had a NBA record 7 overtime periods. Every game has had a hero to come through in the clutch. Game 6 included 51 points from Ray Allen and an amazing full court sprint and dunk from Joakim Noah. Game 7 should be a good one as well. I predict Bulls winning in double OT.
